NSLI-Y Acceptance (and a wedding on the side!)

Johanna killed it at officiating, and just like all of my sisters' other friends, it was great to see them. As I joked in my (well received, "Have you considered going into Comedy?") rehearsal dinner speech, "It's been great meeting all of these people who seem to know me really well." I guess that's just the reality of being the baby of a much older extended family.

The wedding went off without any (big) hitches, and the time in Barra del Navidad was spent with old friends (tequila) and family (cigars). Not for me, of course!

However, one of the best moments of the trip just might have happened about 5 minutes after we got off the plane in Manzanillo. Like the millennial stereotype my mom always seems to embody, the first thing she did was get on her phone to check her Facebook. But before she could, she saw an email notification from NSLI-Y, titled: "Update on your application status."

Her immediate reaction, of course, was "Genevieve, what did you do?" Keep in mind that at this point we're in line for customs, and surrounded by family and distant friends. Not knowing what she was talking about, I asked to see the email.

"Dear Ms. Grant, See attached PDF regarding your application status. Sincerely, NSLI for Youth"

That was it, besides a quick PDF. The contents of which, when opened, led first to this:

Immediately followed by some tears of joy that took us all the way through customs, baggage claim, and the odd looks coming from the airport workers. I don't think they often see people crying in the Arrivals section.

Now, to start studying!!

Some more beautiful pics of the Bridal Party.
